This training is for project members using IBM® IBM® DOORS NG™ for requirements management.

Educational objectives

This training is an introduction to DOORS Next Generation (DNG). It provides the basis for using DOORS-NG for the development and management of product or software requirements.

The objectives of the course are :

  • Be familiar with the DOORS NG graphical interface
  • Enter and manage requirements and other artifacts in a collaborative context
  • Create and edit requirements documents and other artifacts, including textual and graphical artifacts
  • Create, manage and view traceability links between requirements and other artifacts
  • Generate requirements in a lifecycle project.

Targeted competences

At the end of the course, the participant will be able to :

  • Create data and import documents into DOORS NG
  • Consult and present data
  • Manage changes and display history
  • Control the implementation of changes and their impacts
  • Establish records of changes
  • Perform impact analysis, produce traceability matrices and documents

Module 0 : Course objectives

Day 1

Introduction : Presentation of the objectives and the course of the training.

Round table : Presentation of the group, the participants and their expectations.

Module 1 : Structure and concepts of Doors NG, Navigation in DOORS NG)

Day 1

After completing this module, you should be able to understand :

  • Navigating Doors NG
  • Create Views at the Project level
  • Adding comments to Artefacts and setting up dashboards.

Module 2 : Organizing requirement information in DOORS NG

Day 1

After completing this module, you should be able to understand :

  • Organising artefacts in Folders
  • Creating and applying tags
  • Creating views at Module level

Module 3: Collecting Requirements in DOORS NG, Creating Artifacts in the Project

Day 1

After completing this module, you should be able to understand :

  • Download a file to create artefacts

Training outline : Afternoon

Module 4 : Using Modules for Requirements Specifications

Day 1

After completing this module, you should be able to :

  • Modify the attributes of a Module and view its history
  • Re-use requirements
  • Create and populate a Module

Module 5 : Working with Rich-text Artefacts

Day 1

After completing this module, you should be able to :

  • Import a file containing Rich-Text
  • Extracting related requirements

Module 6 : Capturing requirements by importing documents

Day 1

After completing this module, you should be able to :

  • Import an MS Word file as part of a Specification Module
  • To know about other RTC clients :
  • Importing requirement artefacts from a CSV file.

Module 7: Creating and analysing traceability links between module artefacts

Day 1

After completing this module, you should be able to :

  • Create and display traceability links between module artifacts

Module 8: Identifying and Managing Change, Generating Requirements Reports

Day 1

After completing this module, you should be able to :

  • Use JazzTM reports to view the progress of your project

Technical and supervisory teaching resources

  • Each module covered is the subject of practical work that will be carried out via a remote ALM server, supplied and installed by ABlogiX
  • The training is led by a consultant-trainer, which allows participants to benefit from feedback from the field

The speaker

Arnaud Bourlier is a computer engineer specialised in software engineering and is IBM CLM and IBM JAZZ RTC certified. He has worked for more than 15 years in quality improvement and software development processes for the mobile phone, railway and defence industries.
