Targeted audience

This training is intended for project managers, configuration managers, integrators, and manufacturing managers. Working knowledge of Window or Linux environment and command lines are required.

Training objectives

The objectives of this training are :

  • Obj.1 – Implement Base VersionVault on your projects
  • Obj.2 – Create and setup ConfigSpec in order to follow the branch strategy
  • Obj.3 – Strengthen the Configuration Management process by implementing metadata

Targeted skills

Upon completion of this training, the participant will be able :

  • Use the main commands used to manage metadata, elements, and views
  • Implement the proper patches
  • Identify sensitive data
  • Implement the necessary mechanism needed to secure them

Duration

2 days, divided into 14 modules (the program can be adapted to the technological context and level of knowledge of the trainees).

  • The training can be assured in person or remotely
  • The training can take place on an inter-company or intra-company basis

Module 2 : Introduction to the tool : functionalities

  • Understand the framework and access via spaces : Views
  • Describe the main functions

Module 3 : User interface : CLI mode (command line) and graphical interface

  • Know the different interfaces
  • Use integrations

Module 4 : VOBs, Views : VersionVault Database and workspace

  • Understand the VOB mechanism and its structure
  • Understand how to access a VOB

Module 5 : Navigating through VersionVault and accessing objects

  • Identify views and access to directories
  • Read information regarding versioned elements

Module 6 : Versions management : version tree and reporting tools

  • Understand commands to modify files and directories

Module 8 : Directories versions management, creation of new elements

  • Create new private directories and store them as versioned elements
  • Add in elements version management (files, directories)

Module 9 : Evolutions management and Branch strategy

Understand the possible uses of branches

  • Understand branch strategy
  • Manage branch strategy guided by activities

Module 10 : Branchs and ConfigSpec

Day 2

  • Understand the rules of configSpec
  • Implement a configSpec

Module 11 : Merger of modifications operations

Day 2

Objectives of the module :

  • Show the differences between two versions of elements
  • Merge files and select the modifications using the Merge editor

Module 12 : VersionVault metadata

Day 2

Objectives of the module :

  • Describe the different metadata and their use
  • Creation of new metadata

Module 13 : Build software products : Clearmake

Day 2

Objectives of the module :

  • Use the Build functionality with Clearmake
  • See the ConfigRecords resulting from a Build

Module 14 : VersionVault Configuration Management : implementation and procedures

Day 2

Objective of the module :

  • Implementation of configuration management strategies according to the context and needs of the project

Training, technical and supervisory resources

Each course module will be covered in a hands-on exercise that will be performed via a remote ELM server provided and installed by ABlogiX. Each participant will have a computer already installed to access the ELM server.

Training support will be provided for each module and will be presented via a video projector or large screen. A whiteboard or interactive whiteboard should be provided with pens.

The training is facilitated by a consultant-trainer, which allows participants to benefit from his field experience.
